Get up, swing, throw, bend, rotate, flow - with control and strength. The human body is built to move in many directions, transitioning between the ground and standing, generating force and adapting to changing demands. MovNat X Timba Move brings these abilities together in a workshop exploring how natural movement and traditional strength tools can complement one another.
The first hour: MovNat with Brian Betancourt
Explore MovNat’s natural movement principles through the essential skill of getting up from the ground. Brian will guide you through ways to make these transitions more controlled, efficient and adaptable, exploring how balance, positioning and coordination work together. Discover how a familiar everyday action can become a rich practice for developing movement awareness and confidence.
The next three hours: Timba Move with Sudhir Verma
Build on that foundation with multiplanar, rotational strength training using traditional offset tools: Indian Clubs, Mudgar and Gada. Their offset weight distribution creates changing demands as you move through different angles, speeds and directions. Every swing challenges you to generate, guide and control momentum while coordinating your whole body.
Through pivots, pendulums and circular movements, you’ll explore how your shoulders, hips, core and stabilising muscles work together to create strength and control. The practice develops movement skills that support mobility, joint stability, coordination and proprioception - your awareness of where your body is and how it moves.
Bringing the two systems together
Throughout the workshop, we’ll explore connections between MovNat’s getting-up practice and Timba Move’s rotational training: shifting weight, organising the body, maintaining balance and moving with intention. The aim is to help you connect these principles across different movements and discover new possibilities in your own practice.
No experience with these tools is needed - just curiosity and a willingness to explore.
